Reflection #1

I think this class is going to be more interesting that I expected! I don't know a lot about what technologies exist, other than facebook and such. I'm looking forward to learning more- the chat room we used was certainly a bit distracting but I can see how it will be useful. The drawing activity was awful in the sense that I can't draw! I also don't know about things other than TV's and DVD players and computers... so the only other technology I had was a fish tank. I guess that's not technology though =) I can only imagine the things I will know about by the end of April that I'll be able to add...
Well I'm not sure what else to reflect on, so I suppose that's it for now.

Hey Hey Kristen,

First off, I love your horses. I grew up with horses, so I appreciate your beauty. HOWEVER, I also have gotten bucked off numerous times, and one time I was trampled, like literally trampled by a crazy mare we used to board. Also, I've had to clean up after them and carry water buckets long distances when the water trough froze in the winter, so these occurrences have also skewed my opinion of the animal in a negative light!
I am also relatively clueless about the technological possibilities out there awaiting us, but I am too excited about what we will soon learn. Good luck with the rest of your week. See you in the ever-exciting world of Dr. Bigby tomorrow!

Kristin, thanks for hanging in there despite your having to draw ;-) We appreciate your giving us the benefit of the doubt.
I have one thing for you to look at in your free time ;-) One of the interns who taught econ last year stumbled onto a nifty little activity that makes a kind of stock market game out of the popularity of people and events. It's called Trendio (http://www.trendio.com/) Very ingenious...

Pretty horse!
I hope you have had a chance to talk to Dr. Potter about horses. I wish I could go visit her farm and see the animals. The closest I have to an animal or pet is the dustbunny under my bed. So sad.

Hi Kristin - It's your MAC buddy, back on U.S. soil!

It's hard to picture all the technology you'll need before you actually start. However, as a math and econ teacher, I've found that it was essential for me to have access to a computer lab with a fast internet. We do a stock simulation activity in my class, and getting 35+ copies of the WSJ would be expensive and inefficient. Having access to a classroom set of calculators is also essential when teaching in a low-income school. I also have a TV and DVD player in my room which is nice for "movie days". I also put in a mini-fridge for myself and I'm happy to have a heater and AC -- technologies we take for granted in classrooms.

Btw, I also *really* hated that chatroom thing during class. It was so distracting!
